Results from our recent preprint were just published in the Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). This work was conducted in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Martin Ammon and Julian Leiber from Jena University in Germany. Julian Leiber was visiting us at UA as an international graduate research exchange student (IGREP) for six weeks during Fall 2016. Kaminski, Koirala, and Wu visited Jena University for a week in Summer 2016. The published paper can be found here.

Our proceeding paper with Nobel Laureate Gerard 't Hooft just appeared on the arXiv preprint server. Dr. ’t Hooft was awarded the Nobel price for "elucidating the quantum structure of electroweak interactions in physics”. In our recent publication "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Gravity and Information" we address some of today's most fundamental questions of theoretical physics in search for the correct formulation of quantum gravity. The paper was accepted for publication in the journal "Springer Proceedings in Physics".

Kaminski  |  Koirala  |  Wu

This summer, three members of our research group traveled to Europe. Postdoc Jackson Wu spent one week in Bern, Switzerland, and one week in Utrecht, Netherlands. Matthias Kaminski and Jackson Wu spent one week together at the University of Regensburg, Germany. Then, they reunited with our graduate student Roshan Koirala at the FIAS, University of Frankfurt, Germany. Lastly, we all stayed in Santiago de Compostela, Spain for 10 days for a collaboration meeting and the conference NumHol2016. All three group members presented their work, discussed new ideas, and made many new connections during this trip.

High Energy Physics (HEP) Seminar

Semester topic: Introduction to string theory
Reference: Becker, Becker, Schwarz "String theory and M-theory: a modern introduction''
Location: GL 338
Time: 4:00 PM
Further references:
  • TASI Lecture Notes by D'Hoker and Freedman
  • David Tong's lecture notes
  • Lecture Notes by Kevin Wray

Format: All talks on the semester topic are held by students for students. Clearly, faculty are more than welcome to participate. The format of this seminar is informal. Talks are 45 minutes long plus a generous amount of discussion time.

In selected weeks we are going to have regular seminar talks by external speakers.
